my new (old) machine
lookie what i found. something drew me into my favorite catholic thrift store one day about a month ago and this is what was waiting for me.
an absolutely marvelous, older janome new home sewing machine!
it purrs.
don't think it was ever actually used ~ really.
not a scratch on it. original manual and accessories in perfect shape.
it is tough - sews leather, canvas, thick layers.
someone went to a lot of trouble turning an old desk into a sewing cabinet for the owner, and then it just sat, all alone.
well i have been using it almost constantly -- doing all my piecework on it as well as whipping up some holiday gifts. i don't want my 35 year old husqvarna viking 64 40 to get lonesome, so i do detailed stitching and work that needs a free arm on the viking.
i am having a bit of a time getting used to the fact that the needle isn't centered on the pressure foot -- it is offset to the left. is this typical of a janome machine?

I just inherited this same sewing machine from my great grandmother! Is it still working for you? Were you able to find needles and everything for it? Let me know! I'm very excited to start using mine!
You will love the machine Lauren...I use my regular schmetz needles. The bobbins are just a tad bigger than normal, but perhaps any bobbins made for a Janome would work? This machine purrs, and I have found that I use it as my number 1 machine. My Viking is getting lonesome! Enjoy it, and if you need any instructions (I have the original manual) just let me know.
I just got one of these at a church bazaar. Can you direct me to a site where I can learn how to use it? I'm excited to start sewing! (I've never owned a sewing machine before, but I do know how to sew a little)
Thanks!

Hi Tropicslady, I don't consider myself a hippie anymore but I am a boater and I still have the same sewing machine as you. Some of the women at my marina are sewing large canopies for their sailing yachts and would love to use my machine but I am missing the presser foot, needles and manual. My machine is in storage but I am sure it is the same one. Do you know the model number so I can hunt for parts and manual? I am planning to sew all the canvas for my boat too. Also loved St Croix and had a condo there for a few years. hope to get back someday.
Libby, are you speaking about the Old Home machine or my old Viking? I can send you a copy of the manuals for either of them if you let me know which one.
Cheri, I will be glad to send you a copy of the manual but I don't have contact information for you...please let me know.
Thanks so much I am thrilled! My husband an I are restoring a 46' pacemaker on a shoestring budget and all 'her' canvas needs to be redone. Am really looking forward to sharing the machine with my new Florida friends. PS this is my very first blog experience. pretty cool. can you send in PDF? and can I give you my email without the whole universe seeing it? Libby (greenhorn)
Libby, just send your email in the long format -- i.e. libby (at) whatever (dot) com
I'll send the manual in PDF.
Model #532 if that helps.
Life is a funny thing. My partner's mother just brought one over to me last night and while researching it I came to your blog :) Do you love it? It's quiet a looker I must say. I'm new to sewing via cloth diapering and I'd love use it if I can get a manual. Otherwise I may save me a head ache and buy a new one. I hope not.. I love the way the New Home looks with its light on in the evening :)
Hi. I've dug my mum's old Newhome 532 sewing machine out and came across your site while trying to find information on it. Is there any chance you could email a manual for it?
mail@mrhutch.com
Thanks in advance
Mark
I know this is an old post, but I just purchased this lovely machine as well from a thrift store. Would you be able to send me the manual? Thank you so much! molly.n.buck@gmail.com
Hello TropicsLady! I came across your blog in looking for a manual for the New Home 532. I recently inherited one from my mother-in-law and I love it! She's soooo pretty and I can't wait to learn how to use it. I would be so grateful if you could email me a PDF of the manual, as you had offered to another commenter. I think there is an important part missing from the front, where the thread goes from the top to the peice on the front and then down to the foot. I'm guessing i need to find one of those pronto lol! My email is:

without the spaces of course, just for security purposes. Thanks!!!
i too have just been gifted this amazing looking machine... alas there is no foot pedal/ power cable.. it came in a carry box with orginal tin and attachments. would love a pdf or manual or links to where i might find a pedal. happy sewing everyone. toby. tobebius@me.com
Hi TropicsLady!
I am new to sewing and have just got a New Home model 532, its in working order but missing several parts such as feet and the manual...
I don't want to be a pain as I can see several other people have asked for the same thing, but is there any chance you might be able to email me a copy of your manual?
I won't leve my address now, but if you get back to me on your blog then I can leave my email.
And thanks for all the great sewing info and advice on your blog too!
Zoe :-)

Hey Tropical Fever! Looks like you have become a little popular with us New Home/Janome 532 users! LOL! I purchased this lovely machine at a warehouse sale and was able to talk the lady into selling it for $15 because the wiring had come loose and it wouldn't go! ;) I am thrilled with it but I don't want to mess it up threading it wrong or doing something I don't know what to do with it. I would also love for you to email me a PDF manual! My email is sandyartfulspirit(at)yahoo(dot)com. Thanks in advance and let me know if there is something I can do for you in return! Sandy

Do you happened to have a manual for New Home model 325? If so please send to bs39258@gmail.com thanks so much
Try the FB page Vintage Sewing Machine (Non Singer) for the manual.
Purchased the NH 532 machine from local charity shop a couple of months ago but only tried it out last night and I am impressed. As I will be keeping and using it, is it possible to have copy of manual emailed? If so details are jme.2704@yahoo.co.uk Thanks so much.
The manual is free on the FB page Vintage Sewing Machine (Non-Singer).
